To elevate WallHexLights' LED wall decorations, I created a promotional video for their Kickstarter campaign. The goal was to present their smart tech decoration in a captivating and convincing video.
The Brief
WallHexLights is a company that was started by two senior students after they graduated high school. They created the company because they were eager to take on a new challenge and build a product from scratch. The WallHexLights panels are hexagonal LED lights made to be attractive and appealing to anyone who sees them. They are meant as unique way of distinguishing your interior, and are easily controlled with your smartphone. With their beautiful product idea fleshed out, I took on the challenge of creating a promotional video for their Kickstarter campaign.

The ConceptFor this motion graphics project, I chose to take on an illustrative style since the hexagonal shape of the lights offered a lot of creative avenues to explore with illustrations. I was inspired by monochromatic illustrations and scenes where the Hex Lights could really stand out and 'light up the scene.' To add more grit and depth to the illustrations, I chose to work with noise textures and similar shades to create highlights and shading. With this characteristic style defined, I created the promo video for WHL.
The Process — ScriptwritingTo bring across a clear story, I first focused on creating a script that was concise and captivating. By defining this very early on in the stage, I had more creative guidance for the visuals and I could already start time-blocking for the next phase. After I was happy with this script, I chose some music and reached out to a Fiverr voiceover artist to make the script come to life.

The Process — StoryboardsNo motion graphics project can really take off without a quick storyboard to define the flow. This helped guide me and by going through several iterations of this process, I was able to test out many visual flows for the video.

The Process — StyleframesThe styleframes were where the project really started to take shape. I chose to work out a few scenes, most importantly a detailed living room scene. It gave me a much better grip on the graphic style I was working with and also showed some caveats I had originally missed in this style. Working with noise in motion graphics is something I had not done before, and this project taught me many valuable skills for future clients.

The Final ProductBelow you can see the final promo video for WallHexLights. It was a true delight to dive deeper into the world of motion graphics and I loved seeing their brand come to life in this video. Please enjoy and be sure to keep an eye out for those WallHexLights in a few months!
