Mixbox is a subscription box for everyone who wants to learn and become a true mixologist. With this brand I brought together the fun and class of a cocktail, inspired by the intricate textures of cocktail glasses. The brand was supported with a UI design for their very own app.
The Brief
Mixbox is a new subscription service that aims to conquer the market soon. Every month, they provide a varied box with innovative cocktails composed by mixologists. Subscribers can choose to have the box delivered to their home every month or every two months. The founders want to introduce their product to the market in Antwerp in the summer of 2022.As designer, I was asked to bring a brand new face to the company. Besides an original style, the subscription service will also be supported by an app. On this app, users can manage their box and consult recipes. The most important screens of this app had already been cast in a wireframe. I took on the challenge to give Mixbox the sleek look it deserves.

The Concept
One of the most interesting parts of cocktails, are the glasses. I don’t drink cocktails often but I do love to look at the glasses, the visual they create, that instant feeling of luxury and fun at once. This was the inspiration for the Mixbox brand.My brand identity is heavily inspired by the intricate glass textures of cocktails. This idea also fit with the brand’s value of wanting to be casual chic. I was very much drawn to a style with a touch of art deco. I felt like this could bring an elegance to the brand, without exaggeration.
The Process — The Iconic MWhilst going through the brand content of Mixbox, I immediately started sketching some logo's to get a better grip on which style I wanted to explore with this project. I prefer having a unique logo over a font in itself, since this immediately gave Mixbox it's unique identity. Inspired by the vertical ribs of tall glasses, the iconic 'M' of the Mixbox logo was born. I decided to bring that verticality through the entire logo, and it gave me my unique perspective on this brand.

The Process — The IllustrationsTo find the right illustrative style for the brand, I made multiple moodboards for inspiration. By getting my inspiration from different fields (typography, glass textures and illustrations) I was able to find a unique style, inspired by vintage art deco posters. The final touch in these illustrations is the color palette. That fresh pop of orange brought a bold, vibrant edge to the brand. It's something that you don't see often in cocktail brands, and it allowed for Mixbox to distinguish itself from the competitors.

The Process — Product Styling
To round out the entire branding of the Mixbox, I fleshed out some mockups and marketing products that made the brand come to life. The use of the 'X' in the logo as a pattern is one of those small touches that bring cohesiveness in the entire design. I love to find those little extra's in a brand's style.The last part of the product design, was photography. I chose to go for a sleek, minimal look to make the cocktails themselves the center of attention. Photographed in a monochrome background, with a singular piece of ribbed glass behind it, offered that premium feel with a pop of color that Mixbox signifies itself with.

The Process — The Mixbox AppThe final extension in this experience, is the Mixbox app. Bringing the unique atmosphere of the brand into an app proved to be a challenge. I gathered inspiration from other app designs, subscription services to see which design patterns are around in this niche. This helped to bring Mixbox's style into a UI that feels intuitive and easy to use.

The Final ProductMixbox is your go-to for mixology skills, delicious cocktails and complementary extras to bring your next dinner to a new level. With their lively branding, they are a happy pop of color to see on your doorstep every month. Lastly, the Mixbox App perfectly accompanies you and guides you through the steps of making your own cocktail or mocktail. It was a pleasure to design this brand from start to finish, and I would love to see it realised some day.
